This Christmas, things are going to be a little different. For the first time in my entire life, we won’t be spending Christmas with my parents.

Around lunch, we’re going to Hubby’s family’s house, but Christmas morning we’re spending time together, just the four of us, celebrating.

So this year, we get to make some new traditions!

One of the things we’ve already done is take Colton out to look at Christmas lights. We drove about 40 minutes to a nearby town where a local retirement community go all out with the lights. It’s a little far for us to drive every year, but it was the only place we felt really comfortable taking him out of the carseat and still driving. Hubby and I brought a “picnic” of Chick-fil-a for ourselves, then woke Colton up and had him check out the lights.

He had a great time, and I think it would a ton of fun to eat in the car and look at Christmas lights every year. Plus, this is something we could do with whoever we’re with, wherever we are!

I’ve also been thinking about Christmas morning, mostly about what I want us to eat! And so, I’ve decided that our traditional Christmas morning breakfast will be cinnamon rolls, ham and egg quiche, and hot chocolate. Yummy!

Of course, there are some things that are just non-negotiable: cookies for Santa (and this year I’ll be eating as Santa!), Christmas Eve service, reading the Christmas story on Christmas Eve, and the most important tradition: open your presents before you eat breakfast!

Do you have a favorite Christmas tradition I should include in my first Christmas? I’m excited to add to my growing list of must-have forced Christmas joy!
